How a hotel earns a place here.
A place on this list cannot be bought, and most evaluations do not end in one. What follows is the whole of the method.
Booked the way a family books
Standard rates, paid in full, and no advance notice. A property that does not know it is being assessed shows a parent its ordinary Tuesday rather than its best one. Where a property provided the stay instead, the row says so.
Nine questions, any one of them fatal
Is it safe, is it honest, and are children genuinely welcome. Nine checks sit under those three, and they are disqualifiers rather than scores. A single failure ends the evaluation on the spot, however good the rest of the stay was.

An itinerary is the opposite of a hotel. A hotel hands a child’s reserve back overnight, and an itinerary is the thing that spends it.
An operator is judged on pacing rather than on comfort, and no Japan operator has yet built a family itinerary this site would put its name behind.
Most price and pace their family product for adults who happen to have children along, which is a different trip and a different day. When that changes, the operator appears here. An empty section serves a parent better than a filled one nobody believes in.
A place here cannot be bought. A visit can be asked for.
There is no fee and no listing to buy. A small number of evaluations run each year and most of them do not end in a listing. An operator open to one can write to the desk, and the terms follow, including the clause that states in advance that the answer may well be no.
